Barrhaven is a rapidly growing suburban neighbourhood in the southwest of the urban area of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, about 17 km southwest of downtown Ottawa. Prior to amalgamation with Ottawa in 2001, Barrhaven was part of the City of Nepean. Its population as of the Canada 2021 Census was 103,234
The Greenbelt can be found to the north of Barrhaven, the Rideau River can be found to the east, Highway 416 can be found to the west, and the new Half Moon Bay development can be found to the south of Barrhaven along Cambrian Road just south of the Jock River. All of these features roughly define the boundaries of Barrhaven. CN train tracks cut the region in half diagonally through the middle of the territory. Barrhaven is flanked on all sides by agricultural land and rural communities, with the exception of the rapidly developing region of Riverside South, which is located just over the Rideau River. A suburb of Ottawa, Manotick is located due south of Barrhaven in the same general direction.
Barrhaven is comprised of many subcommunities, the most prominent of which is “Barrington proper,” also known as “Old Barrhaven,” and located in the most western section of the community between Cedarview Road and Greenbank Road. Between Cedarview and Strandherd Drive, the western side of Old Barrhaven is getting an influx of brand new home construction right now. Knollsbrook, often known as The Triangle, is a triangular parcel of property located to the east of Greenbank, between Fallowfield Road and the railroad lines. This region includes that portion of land. The neighbourhood known as Longfields can be found to the south of here and extends all the way to Strandherd and Woodroffe Avenue in the east. The community of Barrhaven on the Green may be found at a location where it is bordered by the Jockvale Road, the Greenbank, and the Strandherd neighbourhoods. Davidson Heights is a community that can be found to the east of Woodroffe and just adjacent to the Rideau River. Chapman Mills is a new neighbourhood that may be found to the south of Strandherd and to the east of Greenbank. A vibrant neighbourhood known as Stonebridge can be found next to the Stonebridge Golf & Country Club as one travels closer to Jockvale on Prince of Wales Drive. Stonebridge is situated in close proximity to Jockvale.
